A gas leak Tuesday afternoon north of the Murphy Creek neighborhood in Aurora shut down roads in the area and had residents sheltering in place before the gas line was shut off and the situation diffused.

Some area residents were notified to “shelter in place,” according to Aurora Fire Rescue. People notified were told to stay indoors, or, if outside, go indoors.

As part of the response, police closed East Mississippi Avenue at South Coolidge Street and Harvest Road was closed at East Louisiana Parkway.

The leaking gas line was turned off, but it continued to bleed for some time, according to firefighters. Air quality was monitored in the neighborhood.

Firefighters, at about 6:30 p.m., said the situation was “all clear.” Roads were opened and the shelter in place order was lifted.
