The Cup Espresso Cafe is about to become history. News of its impending closure on New Year’s Eve has created a buzz on  since the news was announced on Saturday.

“As a very regular overseas visitor to Boulder, I’ll very much miss my pilgrimage to @thecupboulder for a super coffee and the carrot cake,” Martin Cooper tweeted.

Josh Montague wrote on Twitter, “Noooooooooooo. thank you for keeping me caffeinated through grad school, being the spot I first met tons of people when I moved Boulder, and remaining one of my top recommendations for visitors to town.”

Natty Zola’s tweet on Sunday paid a tribute to the cafe, “One of my favorite places in Boulder and foundational to the emergence of the tech community here. Thank you @thecupboulder.”

Over the years, the cafe became a gathering place for the hungry and the thirsty, and to those looking for solitude, and to those keen to share a laugh and a bite with friends.

Scott Goldscherhas been coming to the cafe almost every day for more than three years. The Cup is a very relaxed place, he said.
