Getting your player ready...

Dave Thorson sits in his usual post on Colorado State’s home bench, Ali Farokhmanesh to his left and Pierce Hornung on his right. CSU is playing Sam Houston State and trailing with less than 10 minutes to play.

Something needs to change, and quick, for the hosts to avoid their fifth consecutive loss. The Rams have been within striking distance for the entire second half, but the all-important bucket or defensive stop that would sway the momentum keeps missing their clutch.

Thorson’s elbows are on his knees, his hands grasp a clipboard as he watches the action unfold, waiting for the opportunity to make a difference from the sideline. Kendle Moore comes up with a steal and dishes an outlet pass to Adam Thistlewood who trims the deficit to two at the other end. Then it happens.

The assistant coach bolts up from his seat, fists clenched high in the air as he begins frantically motioning toward the Moby Arena faithful behind CSU’s bench. Thorson’s arms swing up and down and his grey suit coat flaps amuck as his face takes on a slight tint of red. In a matter of seconds, the oldest, most experienced member of CSU’s coaching staff at 52 years of age becomes the loudest. He urges players to seize the budding momentum and implores fans to scream their lungs hoarse.

It works.

Moby reaches a new decibel level and the Rams outscore the Bearkats by eight for the last nine-plus minutes of action to pull out a much-needed victory.
