A teenage girl was fatally hit by a car in Lakewood at approximately 6:22 p.m. Sunday, the Lakewood Police Department said.
The incident happened as the teenager was crossing South Wadsworth Boulevard in or near the crosswalk just south of West Virginia Avenue with a friend. The car was heading south and struck the girl, killing her at the scene, said spokesman Rob Albrets.
The friend was uninjured by the car. The police do not suspect intoxication was a factor in the incident and have not arrested or cited the driver as of Sunday night. The investigation is ongoing, Alberts said.
All lanes of South Wadsworth Boulevard have been reopened after being closed for most of Sunday evening.
