A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck nearly two miles northwest of Glenwood Springs early Friday morning, authorities report.

The earthquake was located at a depth of nearly 1.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

An earthquake of 3.1 in magnitude on the Richter scale is considered minor.

Such an earthquake is felt only by a few persons at rest, especially on upper floors of buildings, according to the USGS website.
