A Denver police officer and a suspect were taken to the hospital following a shooting Tuesday night in the Montbello neighborhood, police said.

Police responding to an active 911 domestic violence call encountered an armed man and shot him several times, Deputy Chief Barb Archer said.
The shooting happened at about 8 p.m. in the 13900 block of East Randolph Place, Archer said.

The man who was shot and officer who was injured, but not shot, were both taken to Denver Health Medical Center. The man who was shot will likely survive, Archer said.
The domestic violence victim, a woman, was safe Tuesday night and was taken to police headquarters downtown to be interviewed.
The 911 call on the domestic violence situation was made from inside the home, Archer said.
Two officers involved in the incident have been place on administrative leave pending the ongoing investigation.
The block where the shooting happened is between Peoria Street and Chambers Road, just south of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal.
