A snowstorm is expected to hit Colorado’s mountains Thursday night and make roads treacherous or even impassable, with between 6 to 12 inches of new snow is forecast.
“Persistent snow and strong winds will be the rule through Friday morning across all of Colorado high country,” according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
A brief break in storm intensity will come Thursday morning and afternoon before the next powerful front drives through the mountains, according to the NWS.
During the lull in winter weather, Denver will have mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of about 53 degrees, according to the NWS.
There’s a 20 percent chance of snow after 11 p.m. Thursday in Denver.
Temperatures will be cooler over the President’s Day weekend, with highs reaching only 44 degrees on Saturday, 34 on Sunday and 28 on President’s Day on Monday.
It could snow on Monday morning, according to forecasters.
