Jalen Bates is trading in the Pac-12 for the Mountain West conference.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end announced Monday via Twitter that he’s transferring from Arizona State to Colorado State. On Feb. 1, Chris Karpman of 247sports.com reported Bates planned to finish his collegiate career at another university as a graduate transfer, meaning he’d be immediately eligible in the fall.
“I’d like to thank Coach Herm (Edwards) and his staff at Arizona State for providing valuable leadership and mentorship that led me to becoming a better man on and off the field,” Bates posted on Twitter earlier this month.
Bates played in 13 games last season as a redshirt junior and totaled 31 tackles and a sack. He began last season as a starter for first-year coach Herm Edwards.
Bates was listed by 247sports.com as a three-star recruit out of high school in Kaplan, La. He joins Emmanuel Jones and Brandon Derrow at CSU’s defensive end position.
