Boulder’s Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha has big plans to grow this year.

The company has secured about $3.5 million from investors that will be used for developing new products, innovative packaging and to expand sales and marketing, said Jamba Dunn, founder and CEO of Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha.

Kombucha is a drink made after fermenting sweetened tea with a culture of yeast and bacteria.

The company, which makes low-sugar, plant-infused, functional kombucha, plans to switch to clean supply chains and sustainable packaging to reduce waste and to improve shelf life and functionality of the product, Dunn said.

The plan is to bring in experts to help develop and market the brand. As a small company, Rowdy Mermaid has never had the luxury of a dedicated marketing team before, he said.
