Gunshots ruled cause of death in Broomfield murder-suicide

A woman and her husband were found dead Monday.

Authorities ruled gunshot wounds were the cause of death for Kate McDowell and her husband Thad McDowell.

Police confirmed the deaths of the two, who were found inside a Broomfield home on Monday, was a murder-suicide.

Kate McDowell, 40, died from a shotgun wound to the face and neck, according to a statement from the coroner’s office for Adams and Broomfield counties. Her manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Thad McDowell, 45, died from a gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a suicide. He was listed as the owner of the house where the bodies were found, according to Broomfield property records.

Kate McDowell was a dentist and the owner of Sunrise Dental Care in Boulder, according to the company’s website.
