Investigators believe the 6-year-old girl who fell 30 to 40 feet from the Sundance Ski Lift at Eldora on Sunday was never able to get fully seated and slid off shortly after boarding the lift.

The Eldora Ski Patrol found the girl conscious and breathing at 1 p.m. Sunday. She was taken to the ski resort’s first-aid room and then to Boulder Community Health’s Foothills Hospital for possible pelvic and leg injuries.
Boulder County Sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Wagner said a preliminary investigation indicates the fall was accidental.
“From what we have garnered so far, it doesn’t sound like the 6-year-old had ever been fully seated on the lift chair, and started to slip off as the chair was climbing and gaining altitude,” Wagner said.
The girl fell near the first pole on the lift about 40 feet to the “hard-packed” snow below, Wagner said.
