A 30-year-old man died in a snowboarding accident at Aspen Mountain early Sunday morning, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the man had hiked to a closed area with friends, “descended a ski run and impacted a stationary object.”

Sheriff’s office deputies, Aspen police officers, Aspen firefighters and Aspen Ambulance Service personnel responded to the Lift 1A section of the mountain, on the western side of the ski area.
