is a er.

He’s also a realist.

So when the Broncos decided to make their long snapper an unrestricted free agent this week rather than submit a minimum salary tender of $2.0235 million, Kreiter didn’t fret.

“I’m smart enough and understand the business of the position — long snapper’s don’t get paid 2-million dollars,” Kreiter said. “We’ve been in contact with the Broncos for a couple weeks now. Itap just been working out the right deal.”

Kreiter and Denver wasted little time finding middle ground with the team’s Thursday announcement it signed him to a one-year contract. Kreiter, who enters his fourth season with the Broncos, is set to earn $1 million.

“Loyalty has always been a big thing to me and the Broncos were the first organization to truly give me a shot in the regular season,” Kreiter said. “My family and I love the people in Denver and we’ve gotten to build a relationship with different businesses, high schools and things like that. We really see Denver as home, so we’re excited at the opportunity to stay here another year.”

Kreiter, 6-foot-1, 250 pounds, went undrafted out of Iowa and spent two training camps with the before signing with the Broncos prior to the 2016 season. He earned Pro Bowl accolades last year after handling 146 snaps without a botched attempt. Kreiter returns next season with the familiarity of special teams coach Tom McMahon (retained from fired coach ’s staff).

“The consistency aspect is just working at it and constantly re-evaluating yourself,” Kreiter said. “I’m excited because this is the first year I’ve had the same coordinator two years in a row. I understand how (McMahon) sees protections, so we can be on the same page. Itap going to be even better this year.”
