A 16-year-old boy seen stumbling in a parking lot near the Aurora Town Center had been shot and later died of his injuries, police say.

Aurora police were called at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday to the parking lot at the center, 14200 E. Alameda Ave., Officer Anthony Camacho said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the juvenile had been shot. Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide, Camacho said.

Emergency officials rushed him to a hospital and taken to surgery, but the boy died of his injuries, the news release says.

“It’s an active investigation,” Camacho said Thursday. “The homicide unit is investigating what led up to this shooting.”

Police have not released information about any possible suspects.
