An Arapahoe County judge on Friday sentenced an Aurora woman to six years in prison for hitting and killing a woman riding her bicycle and then fleeing the scene, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Dominique Cain, 33, pleaded guilty Jan. 11 to a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
On July 1, 2018, Cain ran a red light and hit Nancy Condit, 64, at the intersection of South Downing Street and East Cornell Avenue in Englewood.
Englewood police said Cain stopped, got out out the car to look at Condit, and then drove away. The bicyclist later died from her injuries.
At the time of the accident, Cain was driving with a revoked license, and had been a habitual traffic offender, prosecutors said.
“We have too many people in our great state who choose themselves over the law and their fellow citizens,” District Attorney George Brauchler said in the news release. “Coloradoans should know that under our weak laws and broken parole system, this killer will likely be back out onto our streets in two years.”
Condit was a well-known artist and ran The Sand Dollar art gallery in downtown Denver.
