The Colorado men’s basketball team capped its late-season surge in style, topping USC 78-67 Saturday afternoon in an energetic regular-season finale at the CU Events Center.
The Buffaloes pulled away with a late 12-2 run and outscored the Trojans 28-17 the rest of the way after the game was tied 50-50 with 9 minutes, 43 seconds remaining.
After starting 2-6 in Pac-12 Conference play, the Buffs went 8-2 the rest of the way to finish at 10-8 — the program’s fifth winning record in eight seasons in the Pac-12. The victory also assures the Buffs of at least the No. 5 seed at the Pac-12 tournament next week in Las Vegas, pending the result of this afternoon’s UCLA at Utah contest.
A win by the Bruins would give the Buffs the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye.
Redshirt freshman Evan Battey scored a season-high 21 points and added seven rebounds for the Buffs. Tyler Bey posted his fifth consecutive double-double and his eighth in 10 games with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard McKinley Wright also scored 17 points.
CU shot a torrid .615 (16-for-26) in the second half and finished 19-for-24 at the free throw line.
