A tornado touched down Friday evening in Weld County, the first this season for the Front Range, according to the National Weather Service.

The funnel cloud set down at 6:14 p.m. about one mile west of Galeton, said Frank Cooper, a meteorologist and spokesman with the weather service in Boulder.

No property damage or injuries were reported.

The weather service had issued a tornado warning for the area through 6:45 p.m. and a special weather statement for central Weld County through 7:45 p.m. for potential development.

Most of the threat is east of U.S. Highway 85, the weather service said. Rain showers will continue in the area through the evening.
