Baseball is back and the Rockies are 1-0 this season after beating the Marlins 6-3 on opening day in Miami.

Left-handed starter Kyle Freeland got the win against the fish after throwing seven innings of two-hit ball and surrendering only one earned run.

Freeland has grown into a dominant pitcher for Colorado but his game and young career lack one thing — a complete game.

Last season, Freeland finished 17-7 for the Rox. There were a handful of games in 2018 where Freeland had a shot at a complete-game victory but was pulled by manager Bud Black.

In this day and age of analytics and how Black and general manager Jeff Bridich rely on them and the magical 100-pitch count, I would be shocked to see another Rockies pitcher finish what they started.

Call me old school, but bullpens get overworked and relievers need days off, too.

As the Rockies begin another season at 20th and Blake, lets hope Black gives his starters some room to work out of jams and go deeper into games.

Complete games are not a thing of the past. It’s time to let starters finish games when they are dominating.
