Scott Baldermann announced this week that he will run to represent District 1 on the Denver Public Schools board.

In a brief statement , Baldermann said he is concerned about the amount of money DPS is spending on interest payments from bond projects, and that all children don’t have an equal chance for a quality education.
He is president of the Parent Teacher Association at Lincoln Elementary School and has been a stay-at-home dad since selling his architecture business in 2015.
Baldermann is the first candidate to publicly commit to the District 1 seat, which will be open because Board President Anne Rowe is term-limited.
The election is in November, and the field of candidates likely will expand.
So far, Tay Anderson, a young activist who works in restorative justice at DPS, is the only candidate for the at-large seat that Allegra “Happy” Haynes will vacate because of term limits. Julie Bañuelos, a former teacher employed by Catholic Charities, is the only candidate who has announced she will run for the District 5 seat, but current board member Lisa Flores could run again.
