
The Avalanche will open the Stanley Cup playoffs as the No. 8 Western Conference seed and face the No. 1 Calgary Flames in a first-round series set to begin Thursday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Game 2 is Saturday before the series moves to Denver for Games 3 and 4 on Monday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 17. Game 5, if necessary, is April 19 at Calgary, and Game 6 will be April 21 in Denver if the series goes that long. If its goes to Game 7, it will be April 23 in Calgary. (See full schedule below.)
The Avs, who played their regular-season finale late Saturday night at San Jose, finished 38-30-14 (90 points). The Flames were a conference-best 50-25-7 (107 points).
Colorado went 0-2-1 against Calgary this season, losing 3-2 in overtime Oct. 13 in Denver and twice in regulation by 6-5 and 5-3 scores in Calgary on Nov. 1 and Jan. 9, respectively.
The Avs are making their second consecutive playoff appearance for the first time since 2006, when they advanced for the 10th straight time.
