Denver officers have arrested a man for investigation of vehicular homicide after he allegedly struck and killed a woman who was walking on Interstate 25 early Friday morning, Denver police said.

Timothy Ruggles, 29, is also being held for investigation of driving while intoxicated.

Investigators are still working to determine why the 31-year-old female pedestrian was walking or standing on the highway when she was struck and killed.

The woman was in the southbound lanes of the highway near Hampden Avenue when the collision happened at 1:18 a.m., said Doug Schepman, Denver police spokesman.

Ruggles remained on the scene of the collision, Schepman said.

The highway was closed at Hampden Avenue for the investigation but has since been reopened, Schepman said.
