Watch out, UFC, because Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has that dad strength now.
From 2017 until the birth of his son — Dacson Danger — on June 28, 2018, Cerrone was on a cold spell, having loss four of five bouts and dropping down the welterweight rankings. But since, the 36-year-old Colorado native’s career has become re-energized.
Cerrone, ranked No. 4 in the lightweight division, has gone 3-0 in that span (2-0 as a lightweight) and earned a bout Saturday against No. 2 Tony Ferguson. The victor would have a strong argument to face the winner of the September Khabib Nurmagomedov-Dustin Poirier fight for the UFC lightweight championship. UFC president Dana White told ESPN on Tuesday that
“He’s focused now, he wants to win a world title before he retires and he looks better than ever. … and he’s in one of the most stacked and exciting divisions,” White said.
