The Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday acquired defenseman Kevin Connauton and a 2020 third-round draft pick from the in exchange for center .
Connauton, 29, has played six NHL seasons between three teams — St. Louis Blues, and Arizona — and last season recorded eight points (seven assists and one goal) over 50 games played. Connauton, a pending 2020 unrestricted free agent, brings a veteran defensive presence among a roster of talented but youthful Avs defenders.
Soderberg, 33, played the last four seasons in Colorado and performed arguably his best last year with 49 points (23 goals and 26 assists) in 82 games. Soderberg had one year remaining on his contract at $4.75 million, allowing the Avs to clear needed cap space.

“I’d like to thank Carl for everything he has done for the Avalanche both on and off the ice,” Avalanche general manager said in a release. “This trade allows some of our young centermen to have a chance to play a more prominent role on our team while adding an experienced defenseman to our roster.”
TSN’s Darren Dreger was first to report the trade.
