
State tests on Tuesday confirmed the presence of harmful bacteria in Windsor Lake, triggering a closure of the lake to town-provided activities.
The closure includes swimming, the dog park and boat rentals.
The lake is confirmed to have blue-green algae, a type of bacteria common in Colorado waters. In people, exposure can cause symptoms including sore throat, headache, skin irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, nausea and stomach cramps.
Windsor Parks, Recreation and Culture staff noticed an increase in the algae typical to the lake on Friday, according to . Staff sent a sample taken from the lake Thursday to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environmentap lab in Denver for testing. The town partially closed the lake while officials awaited the results.
