As the day approaches when hunters can begin making reservations for the upcoming season through Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the agency is encouraging reservation-seekers to explore its website ahead of time to learn more about the reservations system and make sure they have no trouble logging into their account.

Reservations cannot be made until Aug. 18, but the is already live so hunters can get familiar with the system. Reservation can also be made by phone (1-800-244-5613) beginning at midnight Aug. 18, but CPW is encouraging hunters to use the online reservation system.

There will be more places to hunt beginning this fall. Last month, state wildlife commissioners voted to add 100,000 acres to the existing 480,000 currently open to hunting and fishing. Eventually, the plan is expected to open about 1 million acres.

It will be more expensive for hunters to obtain licenses this year as part of  — covering park passes, camping permits and hunting/fishing licenses — that were approved last November.
