A Thornton man was injured at Rocky Mountain National Park from a lightning strike, officials said.

The 31-year-old man was on a hiking trail Saturday afternoon near Lake Haiyaha at the park when other hikers found him and called for help, wrote spokeswoman Kyle Patterson in a news release.

The man was hiking below the tree line between Dream Lake and Lake Haiyaha when lighting struck, but it’s unclear if the man was struck directly.

Park search and rescue team members responded to the scene and provided medical care for the man’s numerous injuries, according to the release.

The search team took the man down the trail in a wheeled litter carrier to the Bear Lake Trail Head when he was transported by ambulance to the Glacier Basin Campground and then transported by air ambulance to the Medical Center of the Rockies, Patterson said.
