A man who shot and killed a young mother and severely wounded her boyfriend during a robbery has been sentenced to life plus 166 years in prison.
Arapahoe County District Court Judge Andrew Baum sentenced 33-year-old Shaun R. Davis earlier this month for the April 8, 2018 murder of Aliyah Bonicelli, according to a Tuesday news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Davis listened to Bonicelli plead for her life, then assaulted her and shot her, Brauchler said. The boyfriend, who was shot in the face, was not named in the news release.
“No amount of time in prison is enough for such a monster,” Brauchler said in the release.

A jury convicted Davis at trial on May 24, finding him guilty of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder among several other charges. Judge Baum also found Davis to be a habitual offender.
“This is one of the most brutal homicides I have seen,” Baum said just before sentencing Davis, according to the news release. “This is by far the most unnecessary homicide I have seen. There was no need for
Ms. Bonicelli to lose her life.”
Bonicelli’s boyfriend told police that he and Bonicelli gave Davis a car ride. The boyfriend played dead after he was shot and when Davis asked Bonicelli to check his pulse, she said he was already dead.
Bonicelli told Davis she was a mother and pleaded for her life. Davis pistol-whipped Bonicelli and shot her in the back of the head, the news release said. Davis then stole $3,000 from the boyfriend, it said.
“How can you forgive the devil? Please give him the max that you can,” a teary-eyed friend told the judge before sentencing.
In the news release, District Attorney George Brauchler begrudged two early parole releases of Davis for prior felony crimes involving guns.
“Without question, had this monster served his full sentence for his past felonies, this innocent mother would still be alive,” Brauchler said in the statement.
