The Shawnee Peak Fire burning near Kenosha Pass since Monday has decreased slightly as firefighters work to contain its damage.

The fire is at 37 acres as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, down from 40 acres on Tuesday, the Pike and San Isabel National Forest Service said in a news release. The fire remains at 0% containment.
Firefighters made “excellent progress” Tuesday constructing handlines surrounding the fire perimeter, the forest service said. Helicopter water drops helped to fully line several spot fires.
A red flag warning is in effect Wednesday from noon through 8 p.m. due to hot temperatures, low humidity and 20 mile-per-hour winds, the forest service said.
There are no structures at risk, officials said in the release, and no evacuations have been necessary. Several trails around the Lost Creek Wilderness remain closed.
The fire, about 60 miles southwest of Denver, was reported Monday afternoon. The forest service has not yet determined its cause.
