A man riding a stand-up scooter was injured after he crashed into a police officer who was directing Colorado Rockies game traffic Saturday and then hit a parked vehicle, according to Denver Police.

The scooter rider crashed at 5:21 p.m. near Market and 21st streets, near Coors Field, and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The man was charged on suspicion of alcohol-related charges, spokesman Kurt Barnes said. The officer was uninjured.

Scooter crashes are becoming more common, whether on standup scooters or low-power scooters, Barnes said.

“Driving while impaired whether it be a car, motorcycle, standup scooter or low-power scooter is not acceptable,” he said.

A man riding a Lyft scooter died Aug. 4 after crashing into a car in oncoming traffic, the first reported after the city introduced the electric scooters in June 2018 as it wrapped up a yearlong pilot program. Doctors estimate there have been hundreds of scooter crashes with injuries since the program first started.
