Bald Mountain Fire in Jefferson County 50% contained, U.S. 6 now open

Wildfire down to about 17 acres Saturday afternoon

The Bald Mountain Fire is about and has shrunk to from 25 this morning, officials said Saturday afternoon.

Around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday authorities , which had been closed from Colorado 93 to Colorado 119.

About 140 firefighters were expected to work the fire and many would remain on site overnight and continue fighting the blaze on , officials said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and there are no current evacuations, although pre-evacuation notices were sent out on Friday night, Mike Taplin, a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said Saturday morning.

Open space trails in the area are closed, he said. The public is asked not to fly drones in the area due to ongoing fire operations.
