A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday in Aurora after he was struck by a car in an intersection where traffic lights had gone out.

The crash happened at 12:11 p.m. at the intersection of South Havana Street and East Iliff Avenue where a power outage had caused the signals to fail, according to an Aurora Police Department news release. The motorcyclist was crossing the intersection when another driver struck him and then three other vehicles.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of another vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. It became the 21st traffic fatality this year in Aurora, police reported.

Aurora police reminded drivers that intersections become four-way stops when traffic signals go out.
