Grass is growing again at City Park Golf Course, but golfers will have to wait until next spring or later before they get to play there, according to Denver Public Works.
The course, which dates back to 1913, has been closed since November 2017 to “revitalize the 18-hole course, improve and add facilities for golfers of all levels and integrate course features that can serve to reduce flood risks in nearby neighborhoods,” . The golf course was originally slated to reopen this year, but weather caused construction delays and slowed turf growth, BusinessDen .
“City Park Golf Course will reopen for play when the turf is fully established in order to protect the new turf from being damaged,” Nancy Kuhn, spokesperson for Denver Public Works, explained via email. “Establishment of the turf is largely dependent (on) the weather the rest of this year and spring of next year. The clubhouse is planned to open late this year for special events; it will be open for daily operations once the course opens.”
The new clubhouse will feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a “west-facing back patio with expansive views,” according to , and is designed to “blend with the natural landscape.”
While the project has hit some delays, improvements to drainage on the course have been completed, DPW said.
“The stormwater detention area and open channel on the course is operational and working as anticipated,” Kuhn said.
