Recovery from major injuries is often marked by milestones. Getting out of the hospital. Starting physical therapy. Getting back to normal.
Cem Duzel, a Colorado Springs police officer who suffered a serious brain injury after being shot in August 2018, can add another milestone — meeting John Cena.
The WWE star-turned-actor visited Duzel on Friday morning at his home in New York, the Colorado Springs Police Department posted on its Facebook page.
“Remember all those posts of a John Cena figurine showing up around the police station, encouraging the WWE star to visit Officer Duzel in person? Well, it finally happened!” the department wrote. “Thank you to everyone in our community who helped make this happen for Officer Duzel, and thank you to John Cena for supporting our hero along his journey! We are amazed, humbled, and beyond thankful.”
Duzel, 32, was allegedly shot by Karrar Noaman Al Khammasi when responding to a report of gunfire near the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Al Khammasi pleaded not guilty earlier this month to attempted murder.
On Tuesday, Duzel left Craig Hospital, a rehabilitation facility in Englewood. He moved home to New York, his home state, to continue therapy.
