A wet forecast has prompted CDOT to push back the reopening of U.S. 36’s repaired eastbound lanes in Westminster by a day, to Thursday morning.

Last week, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced that the eastbound side would be open in time for Wednesday’s rush hour. A 200-foot section collapsed north of Church Ranch Boulevard in July due to a “slope failure,” and since then, two eastbound lanes have shared the pavement on the westbound side.

Tuesday’s overnight forecast called for a chance of rain, raising the possibility that crews wouldn’t be able to stripe the pavement, CDOT said in a news release.

Here is the updated reopening schedule, depending on weather:

  • 5 a.m. Thursday: Two eastbound lanes will reopen in their original configuration, with a temporary bike path opening for cyclists.
  • 5 a.m. Friday: On each side of the highway, all three lanes will be open, with tolling resuming in the express lanes.

As crews prepare for those traffic shifts, single-lane closures are planned overnight Wednesday and Thursday for both directions of U.S. 36. Some repair work will continue after the reopening.
