Widefield couldn’t quite keep up with a potent Mesa Ridge squad, losing by a score of 40-6 on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Kyle Gaster led Mesa Ridge’s passing attack with 78 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown without an interception. Gaster also added one touchdown on the ground. Gaster’s most relied on target in the game was Andres Esquivel, who caught four passes for 60 yards.

Mesa Ridge’s rushing attack was lead by Jasiah Henderson who tallied 62 yards in the contest, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. Elijah Ross added 56 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.

Paul Young led Widefield’s passing attack with 107 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown and two interceptions. Marquis Martinez was also Widefield’s leading receiver on the day.

Widefield’s rushing attack was spearheaded by Martinez who ran for 50 yards in the contest, averaging 12.5 yards per carry. Martinez also tacked on 44 receiving yards.

Both teams will go on the road in their next contest, with Mesa Ridge heading to play Palmer and Widefield taking on Cheyenne Mountain.
