Montezuma-Cortez couldn’t quite keep up with a potent Bayfield squad, losing by a score of 43-8 on Friday, Oct. 18.
Isaac Ross led Bayfield’s passing attack with 227 yards through the air. Ross’ most reliable receiver in the contest was Crosby Edwards, who caught three passes for 129 yards and three scores.
Bayfield’s rushing game was spearheaded by Dillon Vroman who accrued 72 yards and one touchdown in the contest, averaging 10.3 yards per carry. Vroman also tacked on 74 receiving yards and one touchdown. Cael Schaefer added 70 yards on the ground, averaging 8.8 yards per carry.
Montezuma-Cortez quarterback Ty Blackmer led the passing attack with 98 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown and two interceptions. Montezuma-Cortez’s leading receiver was Vallentino Rodriguez, who caught two passes for 55 yards and one score.
Next up for each team, Bayfield will stay home and play Pagosa Springs, while Montezuma-Cortez will travel to play Salida.
