The Decker fire burning south of Salida is now fully contained, thanks in part to the recent winter storm, and all evacuation orders are lifted, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

All fire restrictions in unincorporated Chaffee County have been canceled, though that doesn’t necessarily apply to U.S. Forest Service land or Bureau of Land Management boundaries, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

The fire area received about 8 inches of snow Wednesday and Thursday, according to a spokesman. Fire crews were not being sent out to the fire early Thursday morning as they worked to assess conditions.

And just because the fire is contained doesn’t mean there still won’t be some smoke and fuels that smolder, officials said.

The Decker fire was ignited by lighting Sept. 8 and has been burning mainly in the Sangre de Cristo Wildnerness.
