A wildfire that started Sunday in Conejos County forced evacuations and burned at least 2,000 acres.
The fire, named G-18, started as a grass land fire, according to a Conejos County Sheriff’s Office news release. The fire destroyed one structure, three outbuildings as a well as fences, pastures and haystacks. Livestock has been displaced, the news release said.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries, the sheriff’s news release said.
The fire continued to burn as of noon Monday, the sheriff’s office said. It is contained but emergency responders feared high winds could cause it to spread.
Residents who live within a 3.5-mile radius of County Road G and County Road 17 were asked around 4 p.m. Sunday to evacuate. Sheriff Garth Crawder scheduled a Monday morning meeting with evacuees.
