Three-year-old bakery The Rolling Pin closed last week in Five Points after its owners decided not to renew their lease.
Michael Martinez and Jay Thomas started The Rolling Pin Bakeshop at 2716 Welton St. in 2016, shortly after neighboring Rosenberg’s Bagels moved into the neighborhood. Prior to opening his own bakery, Thomas had worked as Rosenberg’s pastry chef.
At Rolling Pin, he made croissants, cream puffs, quiches and more from inside the quaint tin-roof space.
“We were honored to be your bakery. We had hoped to stay open a little longer into the month of November but that was not possible,” he and Martinez wrote on The Rolling Pin’s Facebook page on Friday.
Their bakery was located on a changing stretch at the heart of Five Points. Along the same block, newer, beer-focused businesses such as Dunbar Kitchen & Taphouse, Spangalang Brewery and Goed Zuur have all moved in over the last five years.
In just over a year, Famous Original J’s Pizza, Kuni Sushi and have opened on the same stretch between 27th and 30th streets.
