Police in Denver and Adams County on Monday night were alerted about a man armed with a rifle just northwest of the Regis University campus.

Regis security texts and a Twitter post describe the man as about 5-foot, 10-inches tall and 180 pounds, and that he was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and blue shoes.

If you see him, call 911, do not approach, the text warned. Security urged people in the vicinity to shelter in place and lock down. The text warnings went out at about 10 p.m.

Kurt Barnes, a Denver police spokesman, said the Adams County Sheriff’s Office was also on the alert about the report of an armed man. Authorities were looking in the area of West 54th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard.
