An Adams County man faces charges in connection with the shooting death of his neighbor, whose body was found encased in concrete in his basement, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Prosecutors charged Russell Montoya, Jr., with first-degree murder and tampering with a deceased human body in connection to the Nov. 8 death of Shane Nelson, according to a news release from the 17th Judicial District.

Investigators believe that Montoya, 38, shot and killed Nelson, 38, in the basement of Montoya’s apartment complex in the 7800 block of York Street in unincorporated Adams County.

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office found Nelson’s body on Nov. 15 in concrete in the basement. They arrested Montoya at the scene.

Montoya appeared in court Thursday, when he was advised of his charges. He is next scheduled to appear on Dec. 10.
