Matthew Scott Nagel, 28, was found guilty of first-degree murder in an Adams County District Court last week, the news release said. Nagel stabbed James Edward Reed, 59.

Aurora police officers responded to a 911 call in the 9800 block of East Colfax Avenue on April 17 and found Reed on the ground and bleeding from stab wounds in his neck. He was rushed to the University of Colorado hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses claimed that Reed was extremely intoxicated when he was attacked and couldn’t fight back, the news release said. The document also said that both men suffered from substance abuse issues.
