Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Scott Oberg (45) warms up practice at Salt River Fields at Feb. 20, 2019. Getting your player ready...
SAN DIEGO — The Rockies extended the contract of right-handed reliever , who was entering his second year of arbitration eligibility, on Wednesday.
Oberg, 29, is a leading candidate to be the club’s closer in 2020. He’ll receive a three-year deal worth $13 million with an $8 million club option for 2023.
Oberg’s 2019 season was cut short because of an operation to remove a blood clot in his right arm. He’s since been given a clean bill of health. He’s expected to come off blood-thinning medication this week.
In 2019, Oberg went 6-1 with a 2.25 ERA while tallying five saves over 56 innings pitched.
