Capitol Hill residents will soon have their Whole Foods Market back, this time with a taproom attached.
After some months of and other pointing to possible redevelopment, the property’s owner has confirmed that Whole Foods will return to Cap Hill,
The grocer, at 900 E. 11th Ave., closed in the fall of 2017 in anticipation of another Whole Foods opening at Union Station. But the company still had 13 years on its 11th Avenue lease agreement.
Now, a liquor license hearing with the City of Denver is scheduled for Feb. 3, and initial plans for the renovated store and taproom include an outdoor patio, . There is no indication yet of an opening timeline.
While Whole Foods stores in other states already feature onsite bars, this will be the first Denver location to offer the amenity.
Another new Denver grocer, Leevers Locavore, opened in November, selling beer and wine from a central bar and placing cup holders in carts so customers can have a drink while shopping.
The Cap Hill Whole Foods location was previously home to Wild Oats before Whole Foods bought out that Boulder-based grocer in 2007.
In 2017, it closed shortly before the opening of Whole Foods Union Station, which brought multiple food stalls along with its regular market offerings.
Amazon bought the Austin Texas-based Whole Foods brand that same year.
