Prominent attorney Robert Corry will no longer defend the truck driver charged in the deadly Interstate 70 crash last spring, citing monetary and personal reasons.
In his motion to withdraw as counsel, Corry said Rogel Aguilera-Mederos has been unable to pay attorney fees and other costs of the defense, a fact that could “potentially impinge on his constitutional right to an effective defense.”
With Corry out, Aguilera-Mederos will seek court-appointed public defenders, court records show.

Corry also cited what he called “bad luck” in his personal life, which could affect public perception and negotiations with the prosecution, he said in the motion. The 52-year-old lawyer has been arrested four times since June, including on domestic violence charges and for and threatening citizens.
His latest arrest from Oct. 14 on suspicion of violating a restraining order was dismissed Thursday, Denver court records show.
Aguilera-Mederos is scheduled to stand trial in May on 41 charges, including four counts of vehicular homicide. Four people were killed and six others seriously injured in the April 25 crash.
