Highway 6 in Clear Creek Canyon was cleared following a rockslide and reopened Wednesday morning, Colorado transportation officials said.
The road was closed for several hours after large boulders crashed down onto Highway 6.
When Colorado Department of Transportation workers cleared rocks from the road they discovered a large pot hole that had to be filled first before the road was reopened, according to a CDOT tweet.
CDOT has already assessed the canyon wall on Highway 6 near the first tunnel and deemed the roadway safe from further rock falls, according to a second CDOT tweet.
There will be another short closure of Highway 6 Wednesday or Thursday to repair fencing that helps mitigate rockslides, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Highway 6 is back open after clearing the rockslide. There will be another short closure either today or tomorrow to repair the fencing that helps mitigate rockslides after CDOT gets a crew and equipment together to make the repairs.
