Startek Inc., a customer-service outsourcing firm based in Greenwood Village, has informed the state that it will close its Grand Junction call center and eliminate approximately 370 jobs.
“Certain employees may be offered the opportunity to transfer to another role within the Startek organization. However, at present, the company does not know which, if any, employees may be offered this option,” Lana Smith, a senior vice president of human resources at Startek, wrote the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.
The job cuts are expected to start May 31 and extend into early June at Startek’s Grand Junction campus, 2830 North Ave.
In October 2017, the company announced it would add 200 jobs in Grand Junction to serve Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Grand Valley Economic Development Partners put together an incentive package worth $240,000 to secure the additional jobs.
But in January 2018, the company informed the state it would close its Colorado Springs facility and eliminate 261 jobs and in August of that year it shut down its Greeley facility, putting another 186 people out of work.
Startek has had more than 600 employees in Grand Junction and in the past ranked as the region’s largest private-sector employer after Walmart. Another large employer in the region, Halliburton Energy Services, announced in October it would let go of 178 workers.
