It’s week six of stay-at-home in Colorado and the housebound have found a creative outlet or two.
Parents and Denver Public School teachers Rachel and Steven Lamb this week decided to combine some lessons on problem-solving and presentation with an essential life skill for their 7-year-old daughter: baking a cake.
The Lambs posted a video on Monday to their family YouTube series, “Kooking with Kahlan,” in which Kahlan bakes The Market’s Spring Fling Cake, quite adeptly, while explaining the process to them.

She describes the ingredients and steps, and from behind the camera, Steven chimes in with questions — “So, how much is a pinch?” (C’mon, dad!) — to which Kahlan responds, cool as shredded zucchini, with a shrug: “I don’t know?”
Last week, The Market at Larimer Square announced its closure after more than 40 years in business in Denver. Fans reached out with memories and well wishes, and we even for readers to try at home.

“We were sad to hear that this institution of Denver was closing its doors and made their famous cake to honor them,” Rachel and Steven wrote to us over email.
“As two DPS teachers we also wanted to highlight that learning at home can be more than just unbending academics and a checklist. Not every household would have access to these foods, but the cooking/baking process is just an example. Many activities can be made into a tutorial.”
