With the start of the Major League Baseball season postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, we here at The Denver Post took a look at how the Rockies would fare in MLB The Show 20 on PlayStation 4. We will have a story for every game that had been scheduled until real-life baseball returns. Here’s a look at the virtual Rockies’ preseason preview. Entering Wednesday’s game, the Rockies were 40-20.
PHOENIX — Sam Hilliard’s big bat lifted the Rockies to 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, completing the three-game series sweep at Chase Field.
After Ryan McMahon drove in Trevor Story to cut Arizona’s lead to 2-1 in the seventh inning, Hilliard crushed a three-run home run off of reliever Yoan Lopez to give Colorado the 4-2 lead.
The Rockies’ bullpen did the rest. Carlos Estevez (1-0), Bryan Shaw, Tim Collins — in his season debut for Colorado — and Scott Oberg combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Colorado improves to 41-20 and holds a five game lead over the Dodgers (36-25). The two teams begin a four-game series starting Thursday. Jon Gray (9-1) takes the mound against Walker Buehler (5-4). Note: The next live stream will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday. There will only be recaps of Thursday’s and Friday’s games.
