We will have a story for every game that had been scheduled until real-life baseball returns. Here’s a look at the virtual Rockies’ preseason preview. Entering Wednesday’s game, the Rockies were 48-24.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Paul Goldschmidt bashed three home runs as the Cardinals crushed the Rockies, 12-5, on Wednesday at Busch Stadium to take a 2-0 series lead.
Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela gave up five runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. The bullpen didn’t fare any better as relievers Yency Almonte, Jairo Diaz and Wade Davis combined to allow seven runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
Colorado’s offense picked up after a lackluster performance Tuesday, totaling 13 hits on the day. Charlie Blackmon got the Rockies on the board, driving in David Dahl with an RBI single. Nolan Arenado added two more with a two-run homer, driving in Blackmon. The score was 4-3 after Daniel Murphy’s RBI double drove in Trevor Story.
But the lead was short-lived as Colorado gave up seven runs in the next two innings.
The Rockies added one more in the eighth when pinch hitter Raimel Tapia drove in Murphy with an RBI single.

Colorado (48-25) holds a 7 1/2-game lead for the National League West over the Dodgers (41-33). The Cardinals improved to 40-33.
The Rockies look to stave off the road sweep on Thursday. Kyle Freeland (6-4) takes the mound against Daniel Ponce De Leon (1-4).
